Chota Weavers-Peru Cumpi-Camayoc Rio Tinto Project

Cumpi Camayoc is an organization that recovers pre hispanic textiles techniques with people who knew how to weave but have abandoned the practice as they moved into bigger towns and their economy decreased. According to Marta Castañeda, director of Cumpi Camayoc: " Men and women who decide to enter our workshops, recover part of their history whe returning to weave; they learn to value their present as they take up their past, learning new design with export potential". The portraits in this section where taken within the workshop funded as part of Rio Tinto Minning Company´s social responsability program.
